My newest addition to his category is Fierce Guardianship, which is a free negate as long as we control Yuriko! Of these, Arcane Adaptation and Conspiracy are our best options, as they change the creature types of the dudes in our hand. Some players still adopt this approach, and while it has a lot of variance, it can definitely be fun. It's not terrible but cutting it makes sense. Fifthly, since we care about dealing damage off the top of our library, being able to manipulate that with Scroll Rack type of effects are a huge bonus. What we'll be looking for, first and foremost, are cards which grant all of our creatures evasion. So I'm putting up what I have and seeing if I can learn from the crowd. I like the high ceiling Door offers, and unlike Coat it's a non-symmetrical ability. For instance, I've included Mox Amber because Yuriko will almost always be on board, but I've neglected all the other moxen (Chrome Mox, Mox Diamond, Mox Opal) even though they would probably be potent here. However, now that we no longer care so much about giving our creatures unblockablility, Skulker is now just a pricier variant of Coastal Piracy. I never have enough to feel comfortable about activating the top, then leaving enough to recast the bounced creatures, or having to discard the excess cards (hence the [[reliquary tower]] and [[library of leng]]). For me, the yearly Commander sets tend to be the most exciting product Wizards releases. Admittedly, we're much more afraid of a Wrath than spot removal, but I can imagine scenarios where having the added ability to fizzle a spell is game-changing. But it's useful to have other sources of card draw, especially when they're ninjas too. Meekstone shouldn't affect our creatures unless we've played Coat or Door, and if our opponents let us keep an early Meekstone, we will plan to kill our opponents with Yuriko's burn damage. Let's take a look at the glue holding this party together. While stacking your deck with Scroll Rack, Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive, and Higure, the Still Wind probably won't win you the game outright, it will help you get into a strong position to be able to do so later. Privacy statement | I still need to find a place for it though. Hence this one gets the cut, but if you are missing any of the other three this is a good card. This is often times the easiest and most effective way to win. Finally, we love cards that, like ninjas, have a high cmc but can be cast for much less, like Temporal Mastery and Temporal Trespass. There are very few decks that could convince me to play Tormented Soul in Commander, but this is one of them. Yennett - Odd Cost Tribal Commander / EDH. Because our creatures are mostly evasive, and because we plan to go wide, even a little bit of team pumping will dramatically increase our clock. Given that our creatures are so cheap, replaying them shouldn't be an issue. If you've read my primers you'll know that cEDH isn't my cup of tea and I prefer optimized commander decks instead, but if you've got 5 grand to throw into a cEDH deck and enjoy that style I'd recommend checking out the following primer- Yuriko Turn and Burn - cEDH. This card is great because it creates evasive illusion tokens which can then continue to enable our ninjas turn after turn. But I still might put him back in some day for old time's sake. To begin with, she can draw cards like a champion (even though, again, we aren't really "drawing" them), so we don't need as much draw as we would in another deck because its built in. Ninja With Adaptation and Conspiracy, we can make use of abilities that care about Ninjas entering the battlefield like Kindred Discovery and Door of Destinies. Sometimes inspiration strikes like lightning, and other times it needs to be coaxed into existence. If we dome our opponent's with Temporal Trespass on turn two they will probably gang up on us and destroy us before we can get into a commanding board state. I pointed out that it's a very real possibility for us to have a turn two Yuriko, and this is made possible because 12 of our creatures are one-drops. It was essential pre-Modern Horizons and still very useful afterwards in turning our enablers into ninjas. Ideally, we want to be in a winning position by turn 6-7. We have to remember that evasive one drops also do terrible damage with Yuriko triggers, so we don't want more than we need. This realization lead to the inclusion of Night's Whisper and Phyrexian Arena. Luckily, black offers us the best tutors in the game. I'm excited to try out Larceny because it should have devastating implications for our opponent's plans, and I imagine we'll often be leaving them without many options to combat us. But I don't really enjoy playing combo decks, so I've opted to not include the aforementioned Demonic Consultation & Thassa's Oracle combo. For most decks, this section would be fairly boring. Evacuation is great in that it is instant-speed and cheap, allowing us to be the first to rebuild after the wipe. It's also worth noting that we are pretty psyched to steal any Equipment, so maybe make friends with your opponent playing Nazahn, Revered Blacksmith (shout out to Mason at the Underdog's Corner). This week we get to finally talk about the long awaited Commander 2018 set! Feeds | I still think Skulker will be a reasonable include because it can become a 4/4 unblockable creature on its own (and can grant Yuriko unblockable) but I also wouldn't be surprised if this card is one of the first cards on the chopping block in favor of more efficient options. It's a buy in tournament with prize support and as such they are not allowing proxies. Secondly, by default the fact that ninjutsu functions from the hand means that it does not function from the command zone. We want these to be evasive so that they are unblocked, and low cmc so we can get them out early to enable our ninjas, and then redeploy them the same turn if possible to use them to enable still more ninjas. We can still play small unblockable creatures, and we can still have our Edric-esque ability, but we're going to have to work for it a little bit, making us inherently less threatening. However, he doesn't have evasion himself, and costs four cmc to cast, which is a higher rate than we would want for this type of creature. It turns out that blue and black have trouble with most noncreature forms of removal. I'm debating taking [[fallen shinobi]] and [[scheming symmetry]] out as it's been pretty expensive and risky to pull off. Luckily for us, Yuriko already does a really good job of ensuring that we draw lots of cards, but blue and black have the best options for card draw, and I think it would be wasteful not to take advantage. As long as we have any of our Ninja enchantments active, Coat of Arms will provide gigantic increases in power to our team. Once we have a Arcane Adaptation or Conspiracy, Kindred Discovery suddenly becomes one of the best draw spells in the deck. Ninjutsu then bounces the unblocked creature to your hand and replaces it with the ninja, who then is guaranteed to get through for damage.
